Arweave founder: Irys is planning to fork Arweave “out of greed”
Sam Williams, the founder of Arweave, revealed on social media that Irys (formerly Bundlr), a Web3 storage solution within the Arweave ecosystem, is planning to fork Arweave "out of greed" and intends to delete data sets and reset token supplies. Williams pointed out that there is an established mechanism in the Arweave network called "protocol evolution" which allows for secure forking and network upgrades, but Irys has not followed this.
Currently, Arweave has provided a brand new and completely free Irys-compatible bundler on "up.arweave.net". Users only need to replace their Irys node URL with this URL to use it and solve Arweave user problems. Given the current situation, ar.io will remove the Irys bundler from the trusted centralized gateway of the Arweave mainnet, which will result in significant delays before user data is available. Arweave will also soon hold an X Spaces event to explain this matter.
