Ripple co-founder backs Kamala Harris for US President
Chris Larsen, co-founder and executive chairman of Ripple (CRYPTO:XRP), has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Larsen's endorsement was part of a letter signed by 88 corporate leaders in the U.S., as reported by CNBC on September 6.
Other notable signatories include Aaron Levie, CEO of Box; Jeremy Stoppelman, CEO of Yelp; Michael Lynton, chairman of Snap; and James Murdoch, former CEO of 21st Century Fox.
Former Ripple board member Gene Sperling left the White House in early August to join Harris' 2024 campaign, indicating strong Ripple connections to her presidential bid.
Sperling has a lengthy political background, having served as an economic adviser under Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and more recently, in the Biden administration.
David Plouffe, a former adviser to Binance and Alchemy Pay, also joined Harris’ campaign, showing increasing crypto industry support for her candidacy.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse predicted that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler might step down regardless of the election outcome.
The crypto industry could be significantly influenced by the upcoming election, with candidates using it as a strategic campaign tool.
Harris' campaign confirmed on August 5 that they could accept crypto donations through the Future Forward political action committee.
Other prominent crypto executives have also expressed their support for U.S. presidential candidates.
In June, ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood endorsed former President Donald Trump, stating she would vote for the candidate best positioned to improve the U.S. economy.
Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss pledged $1 million in Bitcoin to Trump's re-election campaign, further highlighting the intersection of crypto and politics.
Trump, meanwhile, has promised to “make America the world capital of crypto and Bitcoin” if re-elected, reiterating his support for the industry.
At the time of reporting, Ripple price was $0.5267.
