Web3 Shooter ‘Off the Grid’ Topples Fortnite From Epic Game Store’s Top Spot
- Off the Grid is ranked among the most downloaded titles on the PlayStation 5 store.
- Major streamers such as Ninja and Shroud have been playing OTG to hundreds of thousands of viewers.
- Off the Grid is currently available via early access on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Off the Grid (OTG), a battle royale shooter game from Gunzilla Games that leverages the Avalanche (AVAX) blockchain has become the most popular free-to-play (F2P) PC game on the Epic Game Store.
This has seen the title rise to the top of Epic’s F2P PC library , beating out the likes of blockbuster games such as Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys.
Off the Grid Players
Web3’s latest superstar OTG has taken the gaming world by storm following its early access launch.
At present, live player statistics aren’t available for OTG on PC, but we can draw some guesses by comparing it against the most popular game on Epic, Fortnite.

Fortnite has approximately 1.3 million players online at the time of writing. Around 78% of those players prefer to play console, meaning that via the Epic store, roughly 286,000 people are logged into Fortnite.
Further solidifying its popularity, OTG’s early access is also ranked number one for most downloaded F2P title on the PlayStation store, placing it above hits such as Throne and Liberty, and Apex Legends.
However, it is currently only available on PS5 and only has 99 players online.
OTG Streams
For a brief moment, OTG was also one of the most-watched games on Twitch on Oct. 11, drawing in roughly 150,000 viewers at peak.
Driving major viewing traffic to OTG was Fortnite success story and official OTG partner, Ninja , a streamer with 19.1 million Twitch subscribers.
This was also boosted by major streamers such as Shroud and summit1g playing the game, both of which have millions of subscribers to their Twitch channels alone.
On Ninja’s Twitch channel, OTG videos have drawn hundreds of thousands of views, as have others, perhaps collectively raising OTG’s exposure into the millions.
Web3 Gaming Boost
It’s a notable moment in blockchain and gaming as OTG is the first AAA game (the equivalent to a major blockbuster movie) to launch on the PlayStation 5 and other major consoles simultaneously.
What sets it apart from many of its Web3 gaming contemporaries is that the Web3 part is optional.
In OTG, players can choose to compete for a certain item in the game. If they manage to “extract” from the battle with it, they have the option of converting it into an in-game item, weapon, or add-on, which is also a non-fungible token (NFT) that players can buy and sell.
