The team behind the meme token Uptober has accused popular crypto influencer Jaypeg of running an advertising scam. They said they had reached an agreement with a well-known crypto personality to promote the meme asset in exchange for 2% of its total supply. At the time, that was about $2200.

Jaypeg agreed to the advertising integration and received the promised funds, but then immediately hid the address to which the assets were transferred. The influencer stated that the wallet did not belong to him and the memecoins never arrived.

Message from crypto influencer Jaypeg

The Uptober team contacted blockchain detective ZackXBT, asking him to investigate. The detective was able to find data that proves fraud on the part of Jaypeg. For example, ZackXBT found out that the recipient address of Uptober tokens began with "8jpz1p". This is the same address to which Jaypeg received funds on January 10, 2024, after unpacking the Saga smartphone from Solana .

In response to the accusations, Jaypeg accused the Uptober developers of blackmail and, as a gesture of goodwill, donated $2000 to the environmental charity The Turtle Foundation.

Memcoins continue to be the most popular assets among crypto investors. According to Google Search, since October 12, the volume of search queries for meme tokens has grown to a level close to the 2023 record. However, interest in Bitcoin in the search engine has fallen to a yearly minimum.
