Core controversy: JUP staking and voting behavior may not be included in the airdrop scope.

Author: Azuma, Odaily Planet Daily

Background

Earlier last week, we summarized the potential clues for the second round of Jupiter airdrop (Jupuary#2) in the article "Is the Second Round of Jupiter Airdrop Coming? A Summary of Existing Clues," with the core points as follows:

  1. Including the first round airdrop in January this year, Jupiter is expected to conduct a total of four rounds of airdrops, with each round likely occurring every January;

  2. Jupiter has reserved a total of 2.1 billion JUP for the subsequent three rounds of airdrops (already included in the burn data);

  3. Jupiter founder meow has stated that the airdrop will be community-driven and mentioned that the criteria for the next round of airdrop will be "significantly different" from the first round;

  4. Several institutions have proposed specific airdrop plans designed by themselves in the Jupiter governance forum, and some plans have received a certain level of community support.

A week later, more new clues about the second round of Jupiter airdrop have emerged, especially with meow recently chatting extensively on Discord about core matters such as "snapshot time," "airdrop time," and "reference criteria."

Snapshot Time

First, regarding the most anticipated issue of snapshot time, although Jupiter has not yet made an official announcement through social media, meow has clearly mentioned that the "reference standard for the airdrop is before November 2."

In response, some users further inquired whether all old users would be eligible for the second round airdrop, to which meow's clear reply was "users since last November" ------ Note the term "users" here, which will be elaborated on later.

So it is clear that the reference range for the second round of Jupiter airdrop will be from November 2 last year to November 2 this year.

Airdrop Start Time

Regarding the airdrop time, a user once asked, "How many days until voting opens? Will the airdrop query be available on December 1?" Meow responded with "expected to open on November 25," but did not specify which question this corresponded to.

Since meow later explicitly stated on X: "……It would be very painful for us if JUP falls into the wrong hands. In the next two weeks, we will fiercely debate the meaning of 'correct'……"

It can be inferred that the November 25 opening date given by meow should be the start time for voting on the airdrop, at which point the community will vote to decide which specific airdrop plan to implement.

After the voting is completed, Jupiter will launch the airdrop query page. Considering the time required for voting, this page is expected to be released no earlier than December.

Airdrop Criteria: Controversy Over Staking and Voting

In the discussions over the past two days, the biggest controversy has been over the criteria for the airdrop, specifically whether the staking and voting behavior of JUP holders should be considered.

In response, meow gave a clear negative answer: "Staking and voting behavior will not be included in the airdrop criteria."

Considering that the voting body for Jupiter proposals consists of JUP stakers, meow's statement is bound to face opposition from JUP holders. However, meow's logic is that the airdrop is primarily aimed at a narrow group of users who have used Jupiter products, and staking behavior is unrelated to the airdrop (this behavior will be rewarded through the ASR module), but stakers can also obtain the airdrop by using Jupiter.

Regarding the specific airdrop criteria for user behavior, meow did not mention many details (it is expected that this will only be known after voting opens), but he did emphasize that bot addresses will be excluded to ensure the fairness of the airdrop.

Other Factors: Lock-up Restrictions

In addition to the major points above, another highly concerned aspect is the lock-up restrictions on airdrop tokens.

Meow himself mentioned that "the airdrop is expected to have a one-year lock-up restriction."

However, meow also mentioned the possibility of immediate token receipt, stating that "users can choose to lock up or immediately take 40%" ------ but meow also indicated that this standard has not been fully determined.

Team Attitude: To Deliver the Airdrop to the Right Hands

This morning, after concluding the community discussion, meow expressed his thoughts on the second round of airdrop in a post on X.

"As we are about to start what may be the most controversial vote in Jupiter's history, I want everyone to know some important things. JUP is a valuable strategic reserve, the result of my lifelong efforts, and the culmination of our team's hard work. We will never treat it carelessly ------ it would be very painful for us if JUP falls into the wrong hands. In the next two weeks, we will fiercely debate the meaning of 'correct' ------ regardless of the outcome, I hope everyone believes that I will always consider the long-term interests of JUP."

As one of the most successful projects in the Solana ecosystem to date, Jupiter received considerable praise when designing the first round of airdrop, and after the airdrop, JUP also showed a good trend. As the second round of airdrop approaches, we have reason to believe that Jupiter can once again deliver a satisfactory answer to most users.
