OpenAI board considers for-profit nonprofit structure
OpenAI plans to transform its existing for-profit organization into a Delaware public benefit corporation. The board of directors is evaluating the company's structure to choose between a non-profit or for-profit structure. The public benefit corporation (PBC) will be responsible for operating and managing OpenAI's business operations, while also enabling us to raise necessary funds on standard terms like other companies in the field. A non-profit organization, on the other hand, would hire a leadership team and staff to carry out charitable activities.
