CME Group plans February 10 launch for Solana and XRP futures
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) is reportedly set to launch futures contracts for Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) and XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) on February 10, pending regulatory approval.
A brief appearance of the futures contract details on the CME website sparked speculation about the launch.
While some users questioned the authenticity of the information, analysts believe it is credible.
“Looks like CME is expecting to launch SOL XRP futures on February 10. But this isn’t available on the actual website yet. Honestly makes sense and largely to be expected if true IMO,” ETF analyst James Seyffart commented.
According to the leaked information, both standard and micro-sized futures contracts will be offered.
The standard contract for Solana will consist of 500 SOL, while the micro version will include 25 SOL.
For XRP, the standard contract will feature a lot size of 50,000 XRP, with micro contracts set at 2,500 XRP.
All contracts will be settled in US dollars.
This potential launch comes amid a surge in applications for crypto-related ETFs as regulatory changes unfold.
The recent resignation of Gary Gensler from the SEC and the re-election of President Donald Trump have led to expectations of a more favorable regulatory environment.
Mark Uyeda, acting chair of the SEC, recently established a crypto task force aimed at providing regulatory clarity.
“In the short time he has before Atkins takes over, Mark Uyeda is expected to de-escalate the strict approach toward regulation by enforcement that Gensler oversaw,” stated Agne Linge, head of growth at WeFi.
Currently, four asset managers have filed for an XRP ETF, including WisdomTree and Bitwise.
With Litecoin (CRYPTO:LTC) also emerging as a contender for ETF approval, analysts predict that it could be among the first altcoins to secure such a status.
Despite ongoing legal challenges surrounding XRP ETFs due to litigation with Ripple, industry insiders anticipate that new SEC leadership could expedite approval processes.
At the time of reporting, the Solana (SOL) price was $256.53 and the XRP (XRP) price was $3.18.
