Trump memecoins drive 'crypto' Google searches to 3-year high
US President Donald Trump recently entered the memecoins market, pushing the Google search interest for the word "crypto" to its highest level since 2021. On January 18th, Trump launched an official memecoins project just a few days before his inauguration. After the official Trump (TRUMP) token was released, First Lady Melania Trump also launched a self-named memecoins called Melania memecoins. Both of these cryptocurrencies performed well upon release but ultimately experienced a sharp decline.
Google Trends data shows that after Trump released memecoins, search interest for the word "crypto" surged. The term reached its peak since November 2021, when Bitcoin (BTC) hit a historical high of over $67,000.
