Trump urges Republican senators to maintain tariffs on Canada
On Tuesday, 2 April, Trump called on the Senate to keep U.S. tariffs on Canada in place, hours after Senate Democrats could force a Senate vote to block the president from imposing tariffs on the ally, according to ABC News. The resolution introduced by lawmakers seeks to end an international emergency declared by Trump against Canada, which gives Trump the power to unilaterally impose tariffs. On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney vowed that Canada would respond with retaliatory tariffs if Trump imposed additional tariffs on Canadian goods.
