Despite recent price struggles, #Ethereum (ETH) appears to be facing significantly low selling pressure at the moment. Ethereum has been the subject of ongoing jokes among crypto as it has grossly underperformed its contemporaries in recent years. Its price struggles have only been magnified with the crypto market going through a rough patch in the past two months. While Bitcoin has been up 25% in the past year and XRP has been up nearly 300%, ETH has been down over 40%. But it may not be all doom and gloom for the asset. Ethereum Selling Pressure Almost Non-Existent? Despite recent price struggles, Ethereum seems to be experiencing exceptionally low selling pressure at the moment. Specifically, Ethereum supply on exchanges is at ten-year lows, according to crypto analytics provider Santiment Feed. In an X post on Thursday, March 20, Santiment disclosed that following a 16.4% drop in the past seven weeks, only 8.97 million ETH was on centralized exchanges, the lowest since November 2015 This drop in Ethereum exchange supply can be seen as significantly bullish as it suggests only 7.4% of the nearly 121 million ETH supply is available for sale. Why ETH Exchange Supply Dropping Santiment noted that the recent decline in Ethereum supply on exchanges is the result of holders engaging in DeFi and staking activities. Amid declining market prices, these strategies could help holders mitigate some losses through yield-generating opportunities. At the time of writing, ETH is trading at $1,971.66, down 2% on the day, as macroeconomic concerns continue to subdue risk markets. Until these conditions clear up and demand for risk assets picks up, ETH is unlikely to feel the impact of any exchange supply shortages. $ETH

Crypto exchanges and stablecoin issuers in Australia could soon face stricter licensing rules under a proposed regulatory shake-up. On March 20, the Treasury released a new policy paper outlining plans to bring key parts of the digital asset industry under existing financial services laws. According to authorities, the regulations would help “identify opportunities, manage risks, unlock innovation, protect consumers and uphold market integrity.” Under the proposed framework, crypto platforms that hold digital assets for customers, such as exchanges, custodians, and certain brokerages, will need to operate under an Australian Financial Services Licence. Platforms that deal in tokenized stored-value facilities, such as some stablecoin issuers, will also be brought into the fold. These issuers will need to meet the same requirements as other stored-value providers, including clear rules for redeeming value and safeguarding customer assets. Authorities noted that this approach would “address the unique risks of [Digital Asset Platforms] and Tokenised SVFs,” with additional disclosure rules to be implemented for tokens that don’t have clear issuers. However, businesses that create digital assets for non-financial purposes, maintain infrastructure or build blockchain software won’t be regulated under the new laws. Small-scale and early-stage platforms could also get a pass from full licensing requirements, though they may still need to meet some tailored compliance rules according to the policy paper. Stablecoins used for payments will face oversight similar to that of traditional non-cash payment systems, as they’ll be treated as stored-value facilities under the broader payments reform. However, dealing in these tokens or trading them on secondary markets won’t automatically count as financial dealing. The platforms involved in such trades won’t be considered financial markets simply because they list stablecoins or wrapped tokens. A draft law is expected to drop sometime in 2025, with rollout dates to be confirmed once the legislation is finalized. The government also addressed the growing problem of de-banking, where crypto businesses are denied banking services. Officials said they’re working closely with Australia’s major banks to “understand the extent and nature of de-banking.” In recent years, de-banking has become a major headache for crypto firms in Australia, with big players like Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, NAB, and HSBC Australia cutting off or restricting services to such entities. “De-banking can have a devastating impact on de-banked businesses and individuals. It can also stifle competition and innovation in the financial services sector and negatively impact Australia’s economy,” authorities noted, adding that the proposed framework would strengthen risk management across the crypto sector and, in turn, improve trust with banks. Looking ahead, regulators will also explore how tokenisation could reshape asset markets, assess crypto tax reporting standards, monitor DeFi developments, and weigh the potential benefits of a central bank digital currency for Australia’s financial system.

Berachain’s unique Proof-of-Liquidity mechanism will officially go live on March 24, expanding reward distribution beyond BEX pools to other apps and vaults. In a 21 March post on X, Berachain Foundation announced that its PoL will go live on March 24, with more vaults introduced into the reward pool. Originally, Berachain’s ( BERA ) PoL launched within BEX pools only to distribute BGT in order to enable decentralized on-chain governance. Now, starting Monday, this will expand beyond BEX to more apps and vaults, meaning they will also be able to earn rewards. The first batch of Requests for Reward Vault from apps has already been approved. For now, rewards will be limited to DEX pools, but new vaults and use cases will be approved starting next week. For holders of Berachain’s governance token BGT, this means that they will now be able to decide where rewards will go. Berachain’s blockchain aims to solve the misalignment of incentives in the Proof-of-Stake blockchains. In a typical PoS blockchain, users have to lock their tokens to secure the blockchain and earn staking rewards. While locking crypto is good for security, it’s bad for the blockchain’s economy because it means less crypto is being used in apps and transactions. As a result, users prefer to just stake their assets to get rewards than use DeFi apps built on the blockchain. Berachain was built to solve this dilemma between security and DeFi activity through its novel PoL consensus mechanism . In a typical PoS blockchain, validators earn rewards for validating transactions and pass a portion of those rewards to their delegators based on their stakes. However, on Berachain validators have to allocate most of their rewards—which are earned in BGT—to the app’s reward vault rather than keeping it all to themselves. This encourages applications to bribe validators—usually in the form of its native tokens—to incentivize them to send them more BGT. The end result is a competitive environment where validators are encouraged to support the best apps. Meanwhile, Berachain’s token BERA is trading at $6.35, down by 57% from its all-time high of $14.99 set on Feb. 6 at its launch. Since crashing from its post-launch peak to around $4 within just a few days, the price has been moving sideways in the range of approximately $4 – $5 until a bullish breakout to $9 between 18 – 21 of February, supported by an increase in volume. The momentum continued into early March, with the price peaking $9.2 before facing resistance and then pulling back. After that, the price gradually declined , stabilizing around the $6 support level. Volume has also tapered off, suggesting that traders are waiting for the next catalyst.
