According to data from IntoTheBlock (ITB), Toncoin reached the DAU milestone on May 13 and held the highest market cap in the TON ecosystem as of August 26. This ascent to the top market cap position occurred just two days after Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was detained following the landing of his plane at Le Bourget airport near Paris. ITB data also revealed that within the TON ecosystem, two tokens—Gomining and Ston—had high concentrations of whale investors, with 98% of the tokens held by large stakeholders. This data, accurate as of August 19, before Durov's detention, suggests strong support for the ecosystem. However, the dominance of whale investors poses volatility risks, as large holders can greatly influence market movements. On August 25, Toncoin's price sharply declined by 25% to $5.24, just a day after news of Durov's arrest emerged. Despite this price drop and the shift in market sentiment, various technical and market indicators suggested that TON might be poised for a recovery. During a press conference on August 29, while on a diplomatic visit to Serbia, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he had not invited Durov to France and was unaware of his trip. Macron emphasized that he "was absolutely unaware of Mr. Durov’s coming to France" and reaffirmed that Durov's case would be handled by the “independent action of the French justice system.” French prosecutors have charged Durov, who is currently free on a 5 million euro bail bond but is required to check in with law enforcement weekly and remain in France.
