MetaMask has expanded its fiat off-ramp feature to more than 10 blockchains, with support enabled via its partnership with payments firm Transak. Self-custodial wallet MetaMask, the leading provider in the Ethereum ( ETH ) ecosystem, will now allow users to convert tokens into fiat directly on top blockchains such as BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base and Optimism. MetaMask users previously had to first swap tokens for ETH before converting these into fiat. The deal was both not cost-effective or efficient. “By expanding off-ramping capabilities with Transak, MetaMask is removing barriers between crypto and traditional currency, allowing users to convert a broader range of tokens directly to cash,” Lorenzo Santos, senior product manager at Consensys. The expansion means users across these networks will get access to direct off-ramping with the supported cryptocurrencies. First to go live is ETH on both Ethereum and Optimism, and BNB as well as Polygon ( POL ). MetaMask’s growth of the off-ramp feature from the initial support rolled out when it partnered Transak in September 2023 also marks an increase to supported countries. From initially providing access to users in the United Kingdom and European Union only, Transak’s integration means this network will grow to over 100 countries in coming months. MetaMask also unveiled Transak-enabled on-ramping in 2021. “MetaMask remains one of the first crypto wallets for most web3 entrants in 2025. Its massive and fast-growing user base requires a simple way to enter and exit the crypto market. The entry point was already served in 2021 with Transak On-Ramp. Now, with Transak Off-Ramp, the circle is complete for the user,” Yeshu Agarwal, co-founder & chief technology officer at Transak, said. As a top self-custodial wallet, MetaMask is often the cryptocurrency industry’s first experience for new users. Over the years, the wallet has looked to enhance adoption and usability. Part of its focus has been on a user-friendly interface, seen as key to the broader goal of driving web3 adoption. Partnerships with Transak , others in the space, add to this footprint. It means increased on and off ramping support across many regions, bringing financial inclusion and freedom to the unbanked and underbanked. Such underserved countries include Brazil, Kenya, and Indonesia.

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has joined research-driven cryptocurrency investment firm Paradigm as an advisor. ZachXBT, who describes himself as a scam survivor turned 2D investigator, confirmed the development in a post on X on Feb. 26. According to the well-known blockchain analyst, his role at Paradigm will be that of incident response advisor, working with the cryptocurrency venture capital firm’s portfolio companies. While joining the firm, the pseudonymous on-chain investigator emphasized that he will continue focusing on his primary work, investigating and solving blockchain-related crimes. He described his decision to join Paradigm as an easy one. “It was an easy decision as this gives me the freedom to continue helping the community and publishing investigations like. I’ve always respected how Paradigm has given back to the space by funding initiatives such as Security Alliance, publishing open source research, and helping defend the right to privacy.” Commenting on the collaboration, Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang also confirmed ZachXBT’s work in the space will not change. Huang said : “ZachXBT is a legend, using onchain forensics to keep bad actors accountable. He has returned over $350M to victims of hacks and scams. This is increasingly important as the industry grows. We’re excited for ZachXBT to be joining Paradigm as an advisor. Nothing about his focus will change; we just want to support his ability to keep up the good work.” ZachXBT has exposed numerous cryptocurrency-related crimes, with his in-depth investigations aiding law enforcement in apprehending bad actors. In his latest effort, the investigator helped identify the Lazarus Group as the hackers behind the $1.5 billion heist on Bybit. This saw him win a $50k bounty offered by Arkham. Bybit also acknowledged ZachXBT’s input in the rollout of the exchange’s platform dedicated to taking the fight to the Lazarus hackers.

Fluence is urging cryptocurrency firms and industry players to commit to using decentralized physical infrastructure network solutions through the DePIN Pledge, backed by major organizations including IoTeX, Polygon, Helium, and Consensys. The cloudless computing platform Fluence is using the initiative to encourage cryptocurrency firms and projects to publicly commit to decentralized infrastructure, aiming to build more transparent and resilient ecosystems. Fluence believes that as the web3 and cryptocurrency space continues to evolve, maintaining decentralization has become more critical than ever. More often than not, decentralization has remained an ideal rather than a reality in the web3 ecosystem. The emergence of cloud hyperscalers and artificial intelligence computing has led many projects to rely on centralized infrastructure, straying from their original decentralized principles. According to a press release received by crypto.news, firms that commit to the pledge will be listed in a public directory on the DePIN Pledge website. This allows traders and users to browse and support companies that actively champion decentralization through their technology and infrastructure. Additionally, projects and firms that commit to the pledge will receive a manifesto and a DePIN Pledge NFT. The NFT is auditable on the Ethereum ( ETH ) blockchain and symbolizes their dedication to decentralization. The NFT can be displayed across platforms and social media channels. Aside from Fluence, this initiative is supported by major crypto firms such as Infura, Consensys , IoTeX, Infura, Outlier Ventures, Polygon, Helium , and Blockscout. Co-Founder & CEO of Fluence, Tom Trowbridge, expressed his excitement over the pledge, specifically their efforts to highlight businesses that are using DePIN to improve their operations. “We are at the very beginning of DePIN adoption and over the coming years we expect to see a wide range of DePIN products and services used by all kinds of projects and companies,” said Trowbridge. An example of decentralized technology adoption is Consensys and Infura’s collaboration in building the decentralized infrastructure network, which has been handling requests across multiple blockchains. Clemens Wan, global solutions architect at Consensys, emphasized that DIN is dedicated to delivering high-performance web3 infrastructure through permissionless and decentralized mechanisms. He noted that the DePIN Pledge aligns with DIN’s vision of ensuring that web3’s foundation remains decentralized. “We support the DePIN manifesto because the promise of Web3 cannot be fully realized until the core infrastructure services the industry relies on mirror the values we all stand for,” said Wan.

A few days ago, the capital market company Altvest Capital became the first publicly traded African company to adopt Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset. This move was announced as part of a broader treasury management strategy that focused on strengthening the firm’s financial resilience and protecting its business from currency depreciation risks. Stafford Masie, chairman of Altvest Capital’s board of directors – which played a crucial role in the company’s decision – has expressed his unwavering support for Bitcoin. A former head of Google for South Africa, Masie has been a prominent BTC advocate pushing for the adoption of the leading digital asset in the country. Bitcoin or Nothing During a session with a podcast for the crypto exchange VALR, Masie told the host, Farzam Ehsani, that he is a Bitcoin maxi who does not believe in other blockchain projects. According to a podcast transcript shared with CryptoPotato, Masie sees every other blockchain as an interesting computer science project and a copy of Bitcoin that is trying to solve a problem in a niche, like offering a scalability solution for a challenge. Masie revealed that he disliked other blockchain projects because they “murky the waters” and frequently get in the way of Bitcoin. With the market currently witnessing some sort of detachment between Bitcoin and altcoins, Masie believes people are beginning to see the difference between both ecosystems from a decentralization and security point of view. Regardless, Masie insisted that he stands for Bitcoin only because every crypto entity inevitably moves back to it. He said whatever happens in “Bitcoin land” eventually ends up in the BTC space over the long term. “But me, I am Bitcoin. I’ve always been Bitcoin. I mean, I’ve said it years ago. I don’t believe in blockchain projects…I love Bitcoin. I’m in Bitcoin and Bitcoin only. I’m a maxi,” the Altvest board chairman stated. The Need For a South African SBR Talking about the importance of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) for South Africa, Masie compared bitcoin (BTC) to gold. He asserted that the cryptocurrency had greater characteristics than the precious metal. Citing Bitcoin’s deflationary model, fixed supply, and stock-to-flow ratio, Masie argued that its utility “foul-strips” that of gold. Masie thinks South Africans need to lobby for the government to invest a portion of national funds into Bitcoin because the long-term benefits are substantial. In the meantime, Masie intends to utilize unused energy in South Africa to turn the country into a Bitcoin mining hub over the next few years.
