Horizon is expected to incorporate know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) mechanisms to align with institutional legal frameworks, addressing a longstanding barrier to large-scale DeFi adoption. The project’s emphasis on RWAs reflects a growing industry trend toward asset tokenization, which could democratize access to traditionally illiquid markets. By bridging these sectors, Aave seeks to attract institutional liquidity, potentially stabilizing and expanding the DeFi ecosystem. “I’m thrilled to share the launch of Horizon, an Aave Labs initiative focused on building institutional DeFi products,” Aave’s Director of Institutional & DeFi Business said. “It’s inevitable that all assets will be tokenized, and the global financial system will eventually run on blockchain rails.” However, challenges remain, including regulatory uncertainties, jurisdictional legal complexities and institutional risk aversion.
